The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services have announced that beginning in July 2026 they will be offering GLP-1 medication for $50 a month to Medicare part D beneficiaries. To qualify you must have prior authorization and be enrolled in a standalone drug plan or a Medicare advantage plan that has a coordinated care plan and offers prescription drug coverage. The drugs that will be covered our Foundayo (once approved by FDA), Wegovy, the injection and tablets as well as the Kwikpen with Zepbound. This program is slated to run through December 2027. To qualify the beneficiaries must be at least 18 years old and have a BMI greater than or equal to 35 at the time of initiation of the GLP 1 therapy. There are other instances in which you may be approved to take this drug and you will want to check out cms.gov for that as well as how to apply.
